Our Institute was established in the year 2014-15 as an Institute of National Importance under the MoE, GoI, by an IIIT (PPP) Act of Parliament No. 23 of 2017.

I assumed charge as the Founder Director of this Institute on 05, July 2018.

Prior to joining, I was invited to attend the Governing Body Meeting of the Institute in the Office of Additional Secretary, MoE, as the Director designate and special invitee in which Master Plan of the Institute was scheduled to be approved.

As the Master Plan was prepared without the user requirement specification from the Institute, the approval of the Master Plan was deferred. Then the architects prepared the Master Plan based on the user requirement specification given by the Institute and got approved.

The CPWD prepared the Notice Inviting Tenders and published in the month of September 2019. The deadline for Tenders have been October 2019 and the award was finalized in the month of December 2019. The contractor mobilized the machinery, material, and manpower for commencing the construction work. The Bhoomi Pooja was performed in the month of January 2020 with the expected completion time of 14 months.

But unfortunately, when the earth was excavated water came up due to its water table at a depth of 2 meters. So, the foundation has to be changed and the architects have to rework the structural design which took two months time.

The CoVID-19 pandemic struck the whole nation and IIIT Una was also not an exception. The work got delayed due to the first and second waves by about six months.

On 15, August 2021, the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav began in the Permanent Campus by hoisting the National Flag on a 75 feet flag mast. This event marked the very first event in the Permanent Campus.

On 28, October 2021 the NIT Hamirpur Transit Campus was vacated and shifted to the Permanent Campus. From 29, October 2021 onwards the Institute started its functioning from the permanent campus in a record time of 03 years and four months since the joining of the Founder Director.

Thereafter the fourth semester in-person classes were commenced on 14, Mar.’22, followed by the commencement of II semester classes on 09, May’22. The classes for VII and V semester were commenced on 18, July’22.

The students are given accommodation in the hostels. Two messes, viz., one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian, are catering to the needs of the students.

The infrastructure of the institute comprises of the following:

The new curriculum for the three BTech Programs in CSE, ECE, and IT branches were introduced in the Academic Year 2019-20 and it has been revised in the AY 2022-23.

The highlights of the curriculum of BTech CSE, ECE, and IT programs are as follows:

The Institute maintains a Student Teacher Ratio of 15:1. The faculty members are from reputed Institutes such as IITs and about 85% of the faculty members are with PhD qualification.

A fullfledged SBI Bank and an ATM are functioning within the Institute and at the main entrance of the Institute, respectively.

The Institute was selected for the prestigious award of Nehru Fulbright Specialist Program on Nanotechnology. It was the first of its kind to Nanotechnology Program to be awarded to the Indian Institutes. Dr. Paul J. Joseph of Georgia Tech, Atlanta, USA visited the Institute for a period of two weeks from 25, July’22 to 05, Aug.’22.

He offered a one credit course on Nanotechnology to BTech V and VIII semester students. Thus, the Institute has the Unique distinction of being taught by an expert from USA. Further collaborations are planned.

Four convocations have been conducted for the 2014-15 to 2017-21 batches. The fifth convocation for the 2018-22 batch is awaited.

The Institute is ready with its complete infrastructure as planned with the budget estimate of Rs.128/-Cr. for dedication to the Nation and date of dedication is awaited.

The Institute has a dedicated team of faculty members, staff members who provide the excellent ambience for the students to excel in their studies and get good knowledge.
